Khao Yai (From Bangkok)

Nakhon Ratchasima through the Local Lens: TakeMeTour’s Review

Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) is a go-to weekend getaway for Bangkokians. Located just 3 hours away from the capital in the Northeast, Nakhon Ratchasima is home to the lush Khao Yai National Park, mind blowing waterfalls and Khmer-style temple complex. Here is a list of fun and local things to do in Nakhon Ratchasima:

  • Khao Yai National Park

The UNESCO-listed Khao Yai is Thailand’s oldest and most popular national park. It is home to a huge variety of wild animals including elephants, deer, countless species of birds and more. Camp in the park or opt for a private 1-day Khao Yai national park tour from Bangkok with our lovely Local Experts.

  • Haew Suwat

Haew Suwat is a marvelous yet less visited waterfall, with its 20-metre stream falling down from a lush cliff. It is best to visit Haew Suwat during the rain season, as the water is at its fullest and the trees greenest. You won’t be able to jump in for a dip, but the view and atmosphere alone are enough of a reason to explore Haew Suwat.

  • Phimai Historical Park

The utterly unique Phimai is the largest Khmer-style temple complex in Thailand. It might sound like just another temple if you have seen the great Angkor Wat. However, Phimai Historical Park is worth a visit because it bears all Khmer, Mahayana Buddhist, and Hindu religious characteristics - a truly multicultural site!

  • Wat Sala Loi

Though Sala Loi temple is small in size, it is big in history and character. Wat Sala Loi is holy and popular among the locals, as it houses the ashes of Ya Mo (Grandma Mo) - a local heroine. History has it that she led the locals to save Korat city from the Laos insurrection army. Even if you aren’t a big fan of temple, come here to admire the architecture, the local vibes or the long stretch of street food stalls nearby.

  • Bung Ta Lua Water Park

Bung Ta Lua is a serene and breezy public park and home to a huge reservoir. Green trees, calm water and clear sky - you get the picture. Come here for an early morning jog, or a lazy afternoon in the warm sun. You can also cycle around the park and just enjoy a lungful of fresh air.
